Transgender rights are a hot topic in the news recently, from Trump’s slapdash ban on transgender soldiers in the military to the question of whether Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act includes gender identity under the umbrella of sex discrimination.

The Trump administration announced a new-ish ban on transgender people serving in the military on March 23. But in reality, there’s not much difference between this one and the ban he announced via Twitter last summer.

Much of our focus on LGBT rights centers at the federal level, but there are also several ongoing battles in several states concerning equality.
