Ms. Giampolo,

I know that you work in the city of Philadelphia, but I was hoping that as such an advocate for the LGBT community that you might be able to help answer a question that is just beyond the city’s limits… My partner and I got married last summer after receiving a marriage license from Montgomery County’s D. Bruce Hanes. I spoke with Drew Albert, a clerk who works in the office of the Register of Wills for Mr. Hanes issuing marriage licenses, yesterday (5/21/14). Additionally, I spoke with Gloria Casarez, Philadelphia Mayor’s Office for LGBT Affairs Director, on Tuesday (5/20/14) at the rally outside of city hall. Unfortunately, neither of these resources was certain about the validity of our marriage. I was hoping that maybe you could shed some light on this for us, as we would like to “make it official” sooner rather than later. Thank you so very much for any help you can lend!

All my best,

Regina Bromley

Great information, thanks! For those of us who may live somewhere in Pennsylvania that does not have any workplace protections in place, should we consider petitioning our county court to seal our marriage record so that we are not fired after receiving our marriage licenses?
